     The Carthage Shrine Burn Crew has run a fireworks stand the past 12 years to raise money to for the 12 Shriners Hospitals in the United States. Many Shriners' families also help with the project. Kara Sloan, wife of Boyd Sloan (Shriner), has helped for the past 6 years. Sloan said she enjoys working with the people and helping the children. Sloan said many people you will get to know because they become regular customers each year to support the children. The Shriners tent has been located on 96 Highway by Kellogg Lake, outside Carthage. The Shriners help children 18 and younger with any disability or illness, including burns and paralysis, and it's all free of charge. The Shriners also hold many other events to raise money for the hospitals and can be seen in many parades around the area and in the United States. The next Carthage Shrine event will be a Truck and Tractor Pull July 26-27, 2002 in Carthage Missouri. They hope they see you there!

    Saturday, July 6th, the Jasper FFA Chapter held its first annual antique tractor show and plow day.  The day consisted of a tractor-judging contest, plowing contest, barrel rolling contest, and a wagon-backing contest. KKOW-FM broadcasted live from the event.
   Tractors came as far as Holt, Missouri and as close as Jasper, Missouri.  There were about forty tractors showed up for the event.  Some brought tractors to be exhibited, and some brought them to plow.  Eight tractors were entered in the plowing contest.
