Jasper
Grain Incorporated, which was formerly the Jasper Farmers' CO-OP, is working
through its third year of business. However, the CO-OP goes back many
years before that.
The CO-OP at Jasper started during the early part of
the 1900s, picking up in the 1920s. Now the elevator is centered at
one location in the southwest end of Jasper at the crossing of Morrison Avenue
and the Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad. Years ago the office,
warehouse, and seed cleaning division of the company was on Grand Avenue
in downtown Jasper. The elevator was at its current location.
The original buildings of the CO-OP are in the process of being torn down,
but parts of the buildings remain. The Grand Avenue site is now a vacant
lot.
Don Dean is now the owner of Jasper Grain Incorporated.
The grain elevator buys and sells grain. It is also a place where a
person can always find someone they know to sit and talk to.
